I apologize for not contacting you sooner, we have been searching for former members of the 5th Division and attached units for the past few year's. The 5th Division has a very proud history, it was organized Sept. 1917. The history of some of the regiments that made up the 5th Division dates back to 1791 under orders signed by President George Washington. The 5th Division fought in WWI, WWII Vietnam, and Panama.

Enclosed you will find a membership card to join the Society of the 5th Division. The Society publishes an excellent quarterly magazine called the Red Diamond. Each quarter it lists new members and their units, it also lists each member that has renewed their membership. It is your best hope of finding someone you served with or of him finding you. Many units have mini reunions and advertise them in the Red Diamond. By becoming a member you will always know who is having a reunion and where.

I realize that some of you are still involved with your careers and raising a family but it is going to be up to us to document our Proud History in the War's, and carry the proud history of our forefathers into the future. By becoming united in one organization we can accomplish many things and one is to enjoy old friends and make new ones.

We must never forget the Brave Man and Women who gave their lives for their country and what they believed in. It is very important that you send names and addresses that you are currently in contact with, and any old orders or rosters that you might have. We will add them to our data base, and send them an invitation to join the Society of the 5th Infantry Division.

Thank You,

Mike Sperling
